The San Pedro trip checklist we wish somebody gave us the first time

We been three times. This is the paperwork, the money, getting out to the island, and the one free form that will stop you at the counter if you skip it. Free, no card.

Free. No card, nothing to cancel. I send real things and I don't sell you something every week.

What is actually on it

Checked against official sources, not copied off another blog.

Before you bookPassport and the 30 days

US citizens need no visa for a tourist stay up to 30 days. Official sources actually disagree on the validity window, so we tell you the number that keeps you out of an argument at the counter.

Do not skipThe free form people pay for

Belize requires a declaration before you arrive. It is free on the government site. Search it and you will find a row of sites happy to charge you for it anyway.

MoneyTwo to one, every time

The Belize dollar is fixed against the US dollar. Halve it in your head and you are right. US cash is taken most places and English is the official language.

Getting thereThe island is not the city

San Pedro is on Ambergris Caye. You land near Belize City and then take the short flight or the water taxi. Two different experiences and two different prices.

On the islandGolf carts, not rental cars

That is the transportation. Book one with your room if you can.

LeavingThe exit fee nobody mentions

It is usually already inside your airfare. We tell you where to look on your ticket instead of printing a number that goes stale.

One thing worth saying out loud. The declaration form is free, and there are websites that will charge you for it. That is the whole reason resources like this exist. Not because the information is hidden, but because somebody is always standing between you and the free version with their hand out.
